Electrical Outlet Repair in Arlington & Northern Virginia
Outlets get more wear than any other part of your electrical system. When one stops working, feels warm, or won't hold a plug, it's worth fixing properly: a failing outlet is one of the most common sources of household electrical fires.
Outlet problems we fix
- Dead outlets, often caused by a tripped GFCI elsewhere on the circuit or a failed connection
- Loose outlets where plugs fall out
- Warm, discolored, or melted outlets and cover plates
- GFCI outlets that won't reset or trip constantly
- Two-prong ungrounded outlets that need a safe upgrade
- Failed 240-volt dryer, range, and oven outlets
Check this before you call
If an outlet is dead, look for a GFCI outlet nearby (kitchen, bathroom, garage, basement, or outside) and press its reset button. One GFCI often protects several outlets downstream. Then check the panel for a tripped breaker. If neither brings it back, the problem is likely a loose connection, and that needs an electrician.
Upgrading two-prong outlets
Many older Arlington homes still have two-prong outlets on ungrounded circuits. Swapping in a three-prong outlet without a ground isn't safe or code-compliant. Depending on the wiring, the right fix is running a ground, adding GFCI protection with the proper labeling, or rewiring the circuit. We'll explain the options and the price of each.
Outlet upgrades
- Tamper-resistant outlets for homes with young children
- USB and USB-C combination outlets
- Outdoor weather-resistant GFCI outlets with in-use covers
- Dedicated circuits for appliances, home offices, and workshops

Frequently asked questions
Why is my outlet warm?
A warm outlet usually means a loose connection, a worn device, or too much load. Stop using it and have it checked; heat at an outlet is a fire risk.
Can you replace a dryer or range outlet?
Yes. We replace 240-volt outlets and can convert between the older three-prong and current four-prong configurations when you replace an appliance.
Do you install outlets in new locations?
Yes. Adding an outlet on an existing circuit is usually a quick job; a new dedicated circuit takes longer and may need a permit.
